Have you tried finding the usual contacts you wear at your average optometrist’s office and had no luck? At Bandera Eye Care, serving Bandera and the nearby region, we’re happy to say that our eye care specialists are all about our patients and go to great lengths for them. One way we accomplish this is through hard-to-fit contacts.

General Information

Hard-to-fit lenses are a form of vision therapy for people who have special eye conditions or prescriptions that are not common. For instance, individuals who have keratoconus or presbyopia would require hard-to-fit contacts.

Individuals who suffer from astigmatism, particularly when it’s moderate to severe, would need contacts that fall under the hard-to-fit category. These patients would require toric lenses or contacts for astigmatism that have a unique shape to accommodate the distinctive shape of their eyes. Bifocal, trifocal, and ortho-k contacts would also fall under this category. Apart from these specialty contacts, we also offer custom-made contacts to ensure comfort, functionality, and fit.

Determining Your Need for Hard-to-Fit Contacts

Perhaps you already know that you need special contacts because of the last optometrist you saw. However, if not, our eye doctor can determine if you need special contacts through a vision screening. During this evaluation, we check your vision and consider any existing eye conditions as well.

Using all this information, we can figure out if you need a type of hard-to-fit contacts and even if contacts are the right option for you. We’d also like to note that hydrating contacts for dry eyes could also fall under this category since they’re not the average.

Contact Fitting

Whether you recently developed a hard-to-fit prescription, never had a contact fitting before, or are concerned you may need this type of contacts, you may wonder what the fitting process is like. Fortunately, the contact fitting process for these is the same as for a standard pair of contacts. You look into a machine that takes the measurements of your eyes. We then use the results to find the right size contacts for you.

The only difference in fitting arises if you’re receiving ortho-k. The fitting for these is a bit more meticulous because you wear them while you sleep, and they must fit your eyes precisely. Much of that has to do with the fact that you need them to be comfortable since you’re wearing them while you sleep.
